The challenge confronting our team leaders, many years ago was a 420 hectare, badly degraded, disused former salt production field adjoining a Ramsar Treaty covered coastal wetland just 20 minutes drive from the Melbourne CBD.
The development strategy sought to rehabilitate this barren wasteland and then convert it into the most desirable, large scale, residential community in Melbourne’s west.
It succeeded beyond all COMMERCIAL expectations and arguably, has received more awards than any other project like this in Australia.
This project, Sanctuary Lakes Resort, is all but complete following a 20 year period of continual construction, improvement and land sales.
It houses a population approaching 8,000 deeming it a township in its own right. More than 3,000 gated and non gated homes are now nestled around community owned facilities including a 60 hectare man-made lake, 70 hectare Greg Norman designed championship golf course, full service clubhouse, a serviced apartment complex, child minding centre, golf and tennis academy and, soon to be completed, boutique shopping village.
Central to the success of this iconic project is the underlying Club Living structure that draws the community together and creates a sense of collective ownership. Every resident Member is compelled to pay an annual club fee. These pooled funds are used to maintain the parks, waterways and community buildings and provide events and services including security monitoring and patrols.
